Ugandan Military Announces Capture of "Cannibal": Man Accused of Killing and Eating 38 People Over 15 Years; Previously Escaped or Released After Multiple Arrests
Date: 2026-10-30

On October 26, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Commander of the Uganda People's Defence Forces, announced that security forces had apprehended Mujurizi Moses—a suspect accused of murdering and consuming 38 individuals. Describing him as the "worst serial killer and cannibal" in Ugandan history, Kainerugaba stated that the suspect would face a public trial and the death penalty.

On the evening of October 26, Muhoozi Kainerugaba wrote on social media: "I am pleased to inform my fellow citizens that security forces have captured the evil Mujurizi Moses. He is the worst serial killer and cannibal in the history of Uganda. Between 2010 and 2025, he murdered and ate 38 people in Masaka, Ibanda, and Kazo. We will subject him to a public trial, and he will certainly be executed." He also shared a photograph of the handcuffed suspect, whose lips appeared to be stained with blood. Kainerugaba further issued a warning to other killers: "We are coming for you."

According to Ugandan media reports, the suspect allegedly gained entry into private homes between 2010 and 2025—either by hacking through doors with a machete or breaking through walls—to carry out mass killings of entire families. In other instances, he reportedly lured women into romantic relationships before murdering them. These acts of slaughter may be linked to witchcraft.

Media outlets have noted that the suspect may be the same individual previously sought by the police—identified as Fred Mujulizi—or is at least highly connected to those cases. This individual has been linked to a series of murders in the greater Masaka region dating back to 2012. In 2013, police released his photograph and issued a wanted notice, describing him as a highly dangerous contract killer who carried out crimes while riding a motorcycle; he had previously been arrested multiple times, only to escape or be released.

On October 16, a 38-year-old man identified as Fried Mujurizi, along with another individual, appeared in court on charges including the murder of a woman on September 28 and human trafficking. Police stated that evidence was seized from his residence, and they are currently investigating allegations that he engaged in the consumption of human flesh. Local residents had previously stormed and vandalized his home.

For years, the Greater Masaka region has experienced numerous home-invasion killings, some of which have been linked to allegations of ritual murder and witchcraft. Annual reports from the Ugandan police indicate that thousands of homicides occur nationwide each year, with cases of ritual murder also documented. Local police have stated that they are re-examining cold cases and are accepting information from the public regarding the murders of their relatives.
